Miami Libraries set new #MoveInMiami Standards

The Miami University Libraries set new standards for #MoveInMiami success in 2016, engaging 87 donors and raising $6,708 for libraries priorities. The totals marked a 99 percent increase in donors and a 112 percent increase in dollars raised from #MoveInMiami 2015.

“This is an exciting step forward as we strive to involve more of our alumni and friends as investors in the Miami Libraries’ mission,” Dean and University Librarian Jerome Conley said. “The Miami Libraries reach beyond academic divisions and majors to provide access to the resources and technologies that support the academic success of all Miami students. We are grateful that our #MoveInMiami donors recognize the opportunities they can create through their financial support.”

The Miami Libraries began with goals of 25 donors each for the Textbook Initiative and Technology Support Fund, aiming for a total of 50 donors in honor of King Library’s upcoming 50th anniversary.

  • The Textbook Initiative raised more than $3,400 from 33 donors—the equivalent of more than 28 new textbooks, at an average cost of $120, that will be made available on two-hour reserve to students. A generous matching gift challenge from John ’69, MBA ’70 and Anne Stephens Molyneaux ’70 made a dollar-for-dollar match up to 25 new textbooks.
  • The Technology Support Fund received more than $1,500 from 28 donors, providing additional support for updating and acquiring new technology. When the fund surpassed its goal of 25 donors, the success unlocked a significant donor match from Janet Tallberg ’73.
  • Additional support went to the University Libraries general fund and to the Miami regional campus libraries, Rentschler Library at Miami Hamilton and Gardner-Harvey Library at Miami Middletown.

A social-media driven effort, #MoveInMiami also saw a significant Miami Libraries presence on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, accounting for 23,510 Twitter impressions, 12,309 Facebook impressions and 3,568 Instagram impressions. Dean Conley’s celebration dance montage video received more than 1,700 views on YouTube and Facebook, and his Facebook Live interview with the Miami University Alumni Association received more than 600 views.

This year marked the third year of the university-wide #MoveInMiami effort, which set new standards across the board in 2016. The annual day-of-giving effort seeks to welcome each year’s first-year class on their move-in day by making a statement about the larger Miami Family of which they have become a part.
