In acknowledging the recent disheartening developments within our campus community, it is important to affirm the long-held values of the Miami University Libraries as a place that welcomes all, supports all and believes in the dreams of all.
I join our university community and endorse the strong statements of President Greg Crawford and the Associated Student Government in opposing any form of hate, intolerance and bigotry that stands in stark contrast to the values and principles for which, I believe, Miami University stands.
Libraries are places of true democracy, offering access to the volumes of knowledge for all who seek it, and we strive to uphold that high standard today.
We invite our community to our spaces to find connection or quiet reflection. We offer our vast resources to learn from history, test assumptions and gain perspectives. We challenge all to be thoughtful and informed in inspiring the meaningful conversations that reach to the heart.
We welcome our Miami family within our walls to grow not only as scholars but also as engaged citizens who accept responsibility for and advance the ongoing work that builds the better, more understanding and inclusive world for which we all hope.
Thank you for your ongoing leadership and efforts in ensuring our Libraries remain a welcoming place of community, exploration and growth.
